eatBute 2010

Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute

Friday 10th - Sunday 12th September 2010

Building on the success of the previous eatBute events, the 2010 event saw a diverse and exciting programme.

The weekend long celebrations kicked off on Friday morning with the Junior Masterchef competition at the Rothesay Joint Campus. Budding chefs of the future from the schools hospitality department, used fresh, local produce to make mouth watering dishes, under the watchful eye of judge Rory O’Connell, of Ballymaloe Cookery School, Ireland.
The two day food & craft market on Saturday & Sunday once again saw a huge array of wonderful food & craft from the region showcased to thousands of visitors. Highland beef, local fruit, vegetables, milk, cream, lamb, eggs, langoustine and freshly baked breads were just some of the tasty treats available to buy. The eatBute food village offered food for consumption on the day, from sandwiches and fresh garden salads, to vegetarian curry, there was something to suit all tastes.
Following the success of the Cookery demonstrations in 2009, this part of the programme was further developed
A demonstration in the Art of Butchery given by Philip Dennhardt, followed by Fergus Henderson cooking the pig’s head, highlighted the Snout to Tail philosophy that Fergus has become famous for endorsing.
The 2010 also saw the introduction of Craft Demonstrations, with a fantastic fun filled demonstration by Gillian Brandon Turner of Beautiful Baboon Pottery, giving the young and the young at heart a chance to throw a pot.
Saturday night saw the return of the eatBute ceilidh with visitors enjoying entertainment provided by the Bute Ceilidh Band and a bar fully stocked with traditional Scottish Malts and local Fyne Ale.
Throughout the weekend a programme of children & family activities ran, with entertainment provided by local musicians and Sam’s Academy of Dance, showcasing the abundance of talent on Bute!
With the event continuing to grow in success year upon year, and plans already underway, the 2011 event looks set to be the best yet!!
